I bought an old bike rack from craigs list and my son's bike wouldn't fit on it - the bar was too thick. To top it off, I ride a "girl bike" so mine wouldn't fit either. I was about to give up when I heard about bike frame adapters. This thing is great! It's portable, easily attaches, sturdy and makes my bikes fit on my bike rack. Now I just keep it in my trunk for when I need it.

My wife and I both own beach cruisers. Easily fits on the bike in seconds. A must have for mounting properly on a rack. No worries during transport on the expressway. Does the job well. This is a good, solid product for the money. Inexpensive compared to other models. Would highly recommend.

Customer Reviews

Purchased over 1 month ago/ built with full Shimano 105 components. Was initially concerned about build quality of the frame given such a reasonable asking price. I know that Local Bike Stores as well as bike manufactures have a unreasonable mark up for carbon bike frames made in Taiwan and China After 1 month of use I must say that the ride is stiff and responsive.. The finish of the Team Elite is beautiful and compares to that of 2000+ frames. I would recommend this bike to anyone wanting a good quality Carbon frame, but not willing to spend a lot of "green"

Kryptonite Kryptolok Series 2 Standard Bicycle U-Lock (4-inch x 9-inch) with 4-Foot Flex Cable

Customer Reviews

Kryptonite STD U Lock seems to be a very decent lock but it still can be "infiltrated" by a knowledgeable master thief/master lock picker in probably under 1 hour time. I'm not too worried since it is sizable, hefty looking and very heavy (4 lbs), so it looks bigger than what I saw on other bikes in the bike rack and my bike is only valued at $500. Plus most bike thieves are just simple crooks with a few tools (a bike crook in public with a 20 Pound Sledge Hammer, hacksaw, 42-inch bolt cutters, 12-inch screwdriver, 20-inch crowbar, and claw hammer will be very obvious and suspicious working for one hour on a lock).
Most bike thieves have limited time, looking for an "easy" and quick target. If you beef up your security with the bulky Kryptonite STD U Lock, odds are he'll go for a bike with a cheap lock (cheap chain or cable locks are a certain way to get your bike stolen in the bike rack). Many bikes are stolen because they're not even locked ("I'll just be a sec!"). Many bikes are also stolen because the locks are used incorrectly or left open/unlocked by mistake.
Kryptonite STD U Lock. The keys are very flimsy and forged with cheap metal so I won't be surprised in 12 months that they snap or are damaged. The Lock holder (cheap plastic) didn't work on my bike as the Lock is too big to fit anywhere so I just snug it into my rear rack.
Comes with a cable (be warned, it can be cut quite easily so don't use it as a "main attachment" to a pole, bike rack, etc, just use it to secure your rear or front tires with the U Lock attached to a pole, bike rack, etc, or run the cable through both the seat and the rear tire with the U Lock fastened to a solid object).
You should use a cable lock ONLY to secure your front or rear tire to the bike frame or bike rack. ALWAYS attach the U Lock to a solid, fixed object (lamppost, pole, road sign, fence, bike rack, etc). A cable lock is NOT a primary security tool to secure your bike. Never rely on a cable to anchor your whole bike, it can take someone a few seconds to cut through a cable lock. Always use a high quality U-lock or hefty chain as your MAIN locking device and cables as secondary devices.
In spite of AT LEAST 5 known attempts by petty German bike thieves to break through the Kryptonite STD U Lock, it's held up and has been an eminent tool in my bike lock collection (my secondary cable/cheap Chain locks securing my front tire have ALWAYS been cut).
In all, it's not bad for medium to low bike crime areas but don't use it ALONE for overnight, expensive bikes, big cities, dangerous zones or in dark desolate areas where a thief can use high powered tools or torches.
If you need more Security (you also will need to put up with the hassle of more Weight) go for:
Kryptonite New York Chain With EV Disc Lock Chain
OnGuard Brute STD 5001 U-lock
Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboudit U-lock
OnGuard Beast Chain

This lock works well. It is a little heavy, and I could not attach it to my bike anywhere, so I carry it in my pack. The cable makes it much easier to lock my bike to various racks, and makes it so I can lock up my friends bike at the same time. I would buy this again.

Vilano Fixed Gear Fixie Single Speed Bicycle

Customer Reviews

I build bikes piece by piece a lot, but a friend of mine wanted a particular color scheme for a low dollar amount. This was my obvious choice. It's a low end bike, but not as low as one would think. Vilano bikes can take a beating. The only thing I can foresee replacing are the bearing cartridge in the cranks because most low enders don't exactly use the most high quality guts. As far as the frame goes... it's not heavy at all. All in all I hope that people buy Vilano, although I feel a smaller logo on the bike would make it a bit more mysterious.

First off, the bike came earlier than expected but the packaging wasn't proper to completely protect the bike itself. Mine had a couple scratches on the frame, crank, and inner rim.
The setup was easy enough since the rear wheel came attached (in which it was set up for the free wheel, I had to flip the wheel for the fixed gear)
As for the bike, it rides great and has a good gear ratio for riding in the winter and will be a great workout for my road bike.
I feels like it is worth more and I am willing to put more money into it.

Customer Reviews

Finally, the bar tape I have been waiting for: light, soft, strong (doesn't tear when being stretched) with just the right amount of padding. Fantastic. I bought the red, blach and white versions. It is also long enough to easily tape 46cm bars with tape to spare!

Bar tape isn't the most technical aspect of a bike but there are a couple reasons I'll be buying this product again:
Easy to wrap - The "SRAM" logo makes for a nice reference point when wrapping the tape. It was very easy to tell how much overlap I should use. Also, the side that touches the handlebar doesn't have glue or tape but rather a grip material, so if you need to re-wrap it isn't a problem.
Great feel - This feels about the same as most cork bar tape and there is plenty of elasticity to stretch thin and lots of length to wrap for a padded grip.
Nice Price - This pretty much speaks for itself.

Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with Gauge

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Every dedicated cyclist needs a good portable pump for his or her training rides. However, many on-the-go pumps are somewhat clunky and not all that easy to use. Enter the Topeak Road Morph G, which packs floor pump efficiency and ease of use into a compact, portable design you can bring along for the ride. The Road Morph G boasts a clever foldout footpad that stabilizes the pump against the ground rather than your hand, creating a comfortable, efficient pumping motion. Plus, the pump's flexible air hose makes it easy to work with awkward or tight valve placements while also helping prevent valve stem damage. Other features include an extra-long barrel, an inline gauge, a secure mounting bracket, a Presta/Schrader head, and a plastic thumb lock. The Road Morph G measures 2.2 by 13.8 by 1.1 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 0.49 pounds.

The Road Morph features an extra long barrel that offers huge performance, and includes an in-line gauge.

Topeak Road Morph G Bike Pump with Gauge

Customer Reviews

The key feature of this pump is that the pump head is connected to the main pump by a short section of rubber tubing. This lets you put the end of the pump on the ground after locking the head onto the tube valve. Then, you can use your body weight to do the pumping as with a floor pump, which is nice if you've got skimpy arms like me and need road tire pressure (100+ psi). A short, plastic foot swings down so you can use your foot to keep the bottom end of the pump from slipping as you pump. I'm a bit worried that this foot or its hinge will break, so I try to be careful not to stress it when I'm pumping on pavement, but it's held up fine after over a dozen uses. Finally, while the gauge doesn't seem to be super precise, it's definitely good enough to be confident that you've got the right amount of pressure 'til you get home to your floor pump. As a year-round, carless commuter, I'm happy I found this reliable, well-designed pump and have recommended it enthusiastically to other cycle-commuters.

I considered tossing out my floor pump once I started using this frame pump. The best things: a pressure gauge on the valve and a little flap that you can step on to keep the pump steady. You need this pump if you're into changing tires.

Track Fixie Road Bike Frame with Fork Black 53cm

Customer Reviews

Product came a few days early which was good. Came packaged really well with bubble wrap and extra boxes for the smaller parts for the fork. Looks really well as far as the finish, really good on paint and clear coat. Some minor white blemishes on the right chain-stay, but not too bad or noticeable. The seat post clamp does't tighten all the way so I'm assuming a longer screw for the clamp is needed. which is why I rated 4/5 stars. I also checked out the bottom bracket area, and it looks really clean. It isn't painted on the inside, which is good, that way a bottom bracket is able to fit right in. I also did a test fitment on some 700c wheels, they are a little snug but also fits in. The rear was good, but has no room for chain-tensioners. Can't complain for the service and overall quality of the product for the price. I feel confident about this being my first build.

Well the bike got to my house quick.the frame and fork is light but bad at turns because your pedal is close to the floor but its worth buying for the price. Oh and the top tube does slant down a little thats one bad thing for looks and the seat post does not fit very well mite need to buy a new one but just put some tape and your good lol. The good thing is it comes with headset and sealed bearings that work good. overall good frame.

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit Mini Bicycle U-Lock (3.25 x 6-Inch)

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Big city cyclists need big city protection, as would-be thieves aren't intimidated by just any bicycle lock. Enter the Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit U-lock, which features an 18mm hardened Max-Performance steel shackle designed to resist bolt cutters and leverage attacks. Ideal for anyone who lives in moderately high crime areas, the New York Fahgettaboutit boasts a maximum 12 ranking on the Kryptonite 1-12 lock comparison system, which ranks the varying levels of security offered by the company's product range. A lock that ranks 1 on the Kryptonite scale might work if you live in the burbs and have a Rottweiler parked next to your bike or motorcycle. However, city dwellers demand extreme protection, which is why the New York Fahgettaboutit is built for serious deterrent security. The U-lock also offers such security-enhancing features as a high-security disc-style cylinder; an oversized, hardened steel sleeve over the crossbar for double security; double deadbolt locking for extensive holding power; and a center keyway that defends against leverage attacks. And as a bonus, the lock comes with three keys, one of which is lighted with a high-intensity bulb that makes it easy to unlock the Fahgettaboutit after dark. Other features include a protective vinyl coating, a sliding dust cover that protects and extends the cylinder life, and dimensions of 3.25 by 6 inches.
The Legendary Durability of Kryptonite LocksThe first big test for Kryptonite locks came in 1972, when Kryptonite founder Michael Zane directed the Second Avenue Bicycle Shop in New York City to lock a three-speed bicycle to a signpost in Greenwich Village. Although thieves immediately stripped all of the bicycle's removable parts, the bicycle itself remained for 30 days and 30 nights. The Kryptonite lock and the bike frame were still in place, even though the lock had been attacked numerous times. The publicity gave Kryptonite the boost it needed and forever changed the face of bicycle security. Twenty-two years later, Kryptonite returned to the streets of the Big Apple to test its latest innovation, the New York lock. In April 1994, the New York Post laid down the ultimate challenge: Could Kryptonite's New York lock last 48 hours on the toughest streets of New York? In a city where more than 100,000 bikes are stolen each year, Kryptonite and the Post locked a brand new, bright green Univega road bike worth $600 to a parking meter in the East Village--the Bermuda Triangle of New York bicycle thievery. For a full 48 hours, the bike remained locked on the corner of Avenue A and 11th Street. Zane and Neil McDaid, director of product development and design for Kryptonite, watched from around the corner as the bike came under every possible means of assault, stumping thieves at every turn. After 48 hours the bike remained intact except for the gear derailleur, which had been stripped off. The lock showed definite signs of abuse, but it had not failed. The New York lock had met the Post's challenge.
Not satisfied with the length of the test, Zane moved the bike to SoHo for another six days and, finally, uptown near the Lincoln Center. Even in these high-theft areas the properly locked bike lasted another three weeks before being pulled off the streets by Zane and McDaid. The Post also ran the New York lock through a battery of street tests using common bike theft tools: a 4-foot bolt cutter, a crowbar, and a hammer. The non-Kryptonite locks cracked in seconds, but all methods failed on the New York lock, even the monstrous bolt cutter, which was rendered useless with large dents in its jaws.
About KryptoniteIn the early 1970s, Michael Zane was a free-spirited, bearded kid with a VW van and a big idea for a new kind of lock. He traveled thousands of miles showing the unique U-shaped locking device and spreading his passion for bicycle security to bike dealers all around the country and forged lifetime relationships. The company soon expanded its product line to include power sports, hardware, and snow sports security. Through innovative product designs, cutting-edge marketing savvy, legendary customer service, and pure fanaticism for security, Kryptonite grew with a cult-like following. In 2001, the company that was started in a VW van was purchased by industry giant Ingersoll Rand and became a flagship brand in the company's Security Technologies sector. Publications such as Bicycling, Fortune, The Wall Street Journal, US News ; World Report, and a host of others continued to tout Kryptonite products as the best on the market. The company's dedication to its customers is best represented by its actions during the fall of 2004, when it was discovered that the industry-standard tubular cylinder could be compromised, at times, with a household item. Kryptonite flew into action, created a voluntary lock exchange program, and replaced more than 400,000 locks in 21 countries for free. In essence, the company redesigned the equivalent of nine years worth of new products in just 10 short months. Kryptonite is the only company in the world that offered such a comprehensive plan to customers, taking its "legendary customer service" pledge to new heights.

Kryptonite New York Fahgettaboutit Mini Bicycle U-Lock (3.25 x 6-Inch)

Customer Reviews

I got my bicycle stolen the second time I locked it up in the city with a cable lock only, so I spent many hours researching locks to make sure it wouldn't happen again.
This lock is widely regarded as the most secure lock currently available, and weighs much less than the fahgettaboudit chain locks (which seem to be about equally secure). Mine weighs 4 lbs 6 oz, and to lock the tires I need to also use a 12 oz 4 foot Kryptonite cable lock. So the whole locking system is about 5 lbs, which is a lot.
The most important feature of this lock is the small size, which doesn't allow thieves to get their manual tools like levers or car jacks in to break it. The only known way of breaking this lock is to saw it by hand (at least a half hour of intense effort), or to use a powered angle grinder (probably at least 5 minutes). So most thieves would end up cutting through the frame of the bike if they really wanted it.
There are other small U locks that are also unbreakable except for lots of sawing or power tools, like the Kryptonite Evolution Mini, and the Onguard Mini U lock, but which weigh much less. I almost went with one of these because I hate to carry a lot of weight, and they may be good alternatives to this lock for most people.
I figure the bike theft scene is escalating with the thieves getting more and more sophisticated over time, so even though this is overkill now, it provides me peace of mind that I will be able to keep it for many years without having to worry about it becoming obsolete. And I have the peace of mind knowing that if my bike gets stolen again there was nothing I could have done to prevent it.
Be aware that this lock doesn't come with a mounting bracket, and there is no bracket available for it. I've found the best way to carry it on my bike is to thread it up through the top and side of the rear rack on my bike, but if you don't have a rear rack you'll need to either let it jangle around looped over the handlebars or carry it in a bag or big pocket, which can be uncomfortable.
The locking mechanism is very smooth; it's easy to insert the shackle onto the U, and it's easy to turn the key. This is a welcome improvement over all the cheap U locks I've owned which were fidgety to close.
Update after owning this lock for two years:
I still like it a lot. The weight has bent my rear rack a little so it now nestles just perfectly for rattle free tranport. I spray teflon lube on it every 6 months or so and the locking mechanism is still butter smooth, by far the smoothest U lock I've ever used.
The only annoyance is that the plastic rainguard that covers the keyhole was very flimsy and broke off after just a month or so, leaving sharp mounting rivets that scratched me a few times drawing blood before I got some pliers and pulled them off.
The theft guarantee had too many restrictions to be useful, so I didn't even register.
I also learned a bit more about how to protect the rest of my bicycle after spending three figures replacing a stolen seat and associated components. Search "Pitlocks USA" to find the best system for permanently locking your wheels, seat, and headset to the bike. It's worth the extra cost for the convenience, security, and weight savings of only needing the U lock. And for the other components here's a really cool way to secure them: get ball bearings that will just barely fit inside the allen sockets. Drip some candle wax into the allen sockets, and press the bearing in place before the wax dries. The bearing prevents allen keys from being insertable, and the wax makes it necessary to have a sharp pointy tool (and some time) to get the bearing out, which a thief might not have. This works well for securing brake and shifting systems, racks, handlebars, and crank arms to the bike. I used cable ties around the pedal wrench flats to make it difficult for wrenches to fit. I drilled and drove a screw into the plastic mounting bracket for my LED light and used a cable tie to make it difficult to remove.
With all the components secured to the bike, I no longer need a cable lock, and I can leave the bike on city streets for hours without worrying too much. Bike Security Nirvana!

I've been using this lock for over a year now, and it's worth every penny. I live on a college campus in Los Angeles, and park my bike outside at night. My last bike was stolen when a thief cut right through the $30 U-lock I had. After that experience, I bought the Fahgettaboutit to protect my new bike.
Sure enough, a few months in, someone attempted to steal my bike while I was at work. The thief failed miserably, managing only to cut through the vinyl sheath on the shackle and scratch the paint on the steel. I think that the thief may have even broken his bolt cutters, because he didn't snip the cable that secured my wheels. The jerk did take the time to unbolt and steal my fork, brakes, handlebars, stem, and shifters, but in saving my frame and wheels this lock paid for itself and then some.
After replacing the stolen components, I invested in a Pitlock set to protect my wheels, brakes, and fork. Most of the remaining hex bolts have been filled with solder to discourage theft. With these measures in place alongside my Kryptonite Fahgettaboutit, I have no worries about leaving my ride outside and no one has made a visible attempt to take it.
The lock is heavy, but I'm not a gram-counter, so it doesn't bug me. The main downside is that there is no frame mount for this lock.
It's worth noting that the shackle locks at both ends. In other words, to add insult to injury, a thief would probably have to cut through the shackle twice in order to get the bike out.
The Fahgettaboutit doesn't like to get wet- the mechanism will get stiff if left out in the rain. However, I was able to remedy the problem easily by applying some bearing grease in the pits. This lubricated the locking mechanism and prevented any more water from entering.
If you're even moderately worried about bike theft, then buy this lock. The peace of mind is wonderful.

I have tested countless rear bicycle tail lights. No tail light so far is without problems. Planet Bike makes very good products. To be considered a great tail light a few requirements must be met: Easy, secure mounting, great optics for viewing straight on and from the sides, and a durable, quality switch. Planet Bike has a good, not great mount (the light tends to jiggle in the mount, which may simply be a quality control issue, not a design issue), very good straight on optics, and average optics from the side. Where is fails is in the switch category. I have purchased 4 of these lights, and two of them have defective switches. The light will change modes (from on to off to blinking) when you hit minor defects in the road. 3 stars for the light (very good straight on viewing, average side viewing), 3 stars for the mount, and 0 stars for the switch, arrives at the 2 star rating. They need to either use a Cateye type switch, or a Princeton Tec Swerve type switch.

Here is my amature opinion of this bike.... I think its worth the pennys if your into some tinkering.

I've had this bike for about 2 weeks so far and I'm really enjoying it. The single speed aspects isn't as bad as I thought it would be except on extreme inclines. Once you get the bike you'll want to upgrade to some better components although everything on the bike is functional. A very practical and budget friendly solution to getting your feet a little wet in the sport cycling.
I ordered this bike through Amazon.com and it did arrive on time through UPS but the condition of the box it was shipped in was very very bad. I looked like it fell out of the truck and someone messily taped it back up with holes everywhere and all crumpled up. The UPS guy said I could file a claim but I looked inside and everyting was there and there was maybe 1 or 2 scratches on the bike so I didn't bother with the hassle.
Assembling the bike was pretty easy, used a Crescent wrench and a set of Alan keys and some need nose pliers to adjust the brakes ( that was probably the hardest part but still not too tough ). Just remember to tighten everything and adjust the seat and handlebars to you liking.
On the bike itself everything does work. I like the fact that the drop bars have an ergonomic bend at the drop to fit your grip. The seat also isn't as bad as I was expecting it to be. I recently replaced it with a race style saddle that's not as cushy as the stock one but looks 10x better. After an hour of riding the difference between the two is negligible. The reflectors on the spokes are nice but the rear one broke off while I was loading it into a trunk of an SUV so I ended up removing the front one too. The pedals work but feel and look cheap, I ordered some replacements already. Oh, and the brakes are ok but I just didn't trust them to well riding down the hills of San Francisco so I replaced them with some Tektro R530 brakes and some cross levers mounted on a Bullhorn handlebar ( I'm probably going to put the drops back on though ). The paint job is nice but scratches really easily. For the price I won't complain but I've thrown some decals on the frame and it actually looks really decent. It comes with a flip flop hub where you can either go fixed gear or freewheel. I've left it on freewheel because honestly that's more my style of riding and you can't legally ride a bicycle that doesn't have brakes in SF. Also, for an amateur rider like me...Free wheel with brakes is alot more forgiving than fixed gear without.
If I didn't buy this bike, I would've bought the Mongoose Cachet and just removed all the stickers, or the Schwinn Courier and switched the brake levers ( and removed all the stickers lol ).
Overall it's a very good price for a Single Speed Road bike. I've removed 1 star for the quality of some components on the bicycle, but once you have the bike you'll know what works for you and have lots of fun experiencing the joy of cycling. I'm glad I made the purchase and this bike allows me to ride alongside other bikes 4 times as expensive with just as much fun.

Pay no attention to those reviews that suggest that the smart head does not work properly - they just don't know how to do it.
I just took delivery of the Joe blow Pro model Floor pump. The "smart head" has a small learning process. Once you understand it, it is excellent. Unfortunately, the manual is quite sketchy and it took me a while to learn the process. A major advantage is that the same head works for both Presta or Schrader valves.
Start with the lever parallel to the hose and, for Presta, press the head down over the valve as far as it will go comfortably. Now cock the lever, (lever perpendicular to the hose), and inflate the tire. For Schrader, there is a difference and it took me a while to get the hang of it. Do not push the head down as far as it is capable of going - if you do, it will be impossible to cock the lever. You will rapidly learn how far to push the smart head. It should be possible to cock the lever without having to strain.
I too thought that there was a problem with the design as my first few attempts, both with Presta and with Schrader valves, were awkward. Once I learned the system I really like it. In fact, I'm probably going to order the upgrade kit so that I can put it on the Blackburn floor pump that I am replacing.

Spray a little silicone into the valve head before use and you should not have any seal issues.

Amazon.com Bicycle Buying GuideFinding the Right BikeTo really enjoy cycling, it's important to find a bicycle that works for you. Here are some things to keep in mind when you're in the market for a new bike:
The Right RideIn general, bikes are broken down into three major categories:
  • Road and Racing Bikes--As a general rule, road and racing are built for speed and longer distances on paved surfaces. Thinner tires, lightweight 29-inch (700c) wheels and drop bars that allow for a more aerodynamic position are the norm. Most road bikes, regardless of price, offer many gears for tackling both hilly and flat terrain.
  • Mountain Bikes--With their larger tires, hill-friendly gearing and upright position, mountain bikes are very popular for all types of riding, both on pavement and off. Mountain bikes that are designed specifically for rugged trail use typically feature a suspension fork. Some may have rear suspension, as well. A quick change of the tires on any mountain bike--even one that you use regularly on trails--adds to its versatility and makes it a worthy street machine.
  • Comfort/Cruiser Bikes--For tooling around on bike paths, light trails, or for cruising a quiet beach-side lane, comfort/cruiser bikes are the ticket. With a super-relaxed riding position, padded seats, and limited or no gearing, these bikes are made for enjoying the scenery and having fun with the family.

The Right PriceA bike's price boils down to three essentials: frame materials, bike weight, and component quality and durability.
  • Entry-level--You'll find a wide range of comfort and cruiser bikes in this category, as well as some lower-end mountain bikes and road bikes. Most will have steel frames and components that are designed to last for several years with frequent use.
  • Mid-range--Bikes in this range may feature a lighter aluminum frame with mid-range components that keep performing after miles of use. If you're looking for a quality bike that is relatively lightweight and will stand up to abuse, this is the "sweet spot." Most serious commuter and touring bikes fall into this category, as do mid-range mountain bikes with a decent front suspension.
  • High-end--Racers and serious enthusiasts who expect lightweight, high-performance components will want to stick to this category. For road bikes, exotic frame materials (carbon fiber, titanium) and ultra-lightweight components can add thousands to the price tag. Mountain bikes in this class often feature advanced front and rear suspension technology, as well as components designed to handle lots of rugged trail action.

The Right SizeFit is crucial for comfort, control, and proper power and endurance on a bike. Here are some basic bike fit tips:
  • Stand-over Height--To find out if a bike's overall height fits your body, measure your inseam. Next, determine how much clearance you'll need between your crotch and the top tube of the bike. For a mountain bike, you'll want three to five inches of clearance. A road bike should offer between one and two inches of clearance, while a commuter bike should have two to four inches. Compare the stand-over height for a given bike to your measurements (inseam + clearance) to determine the right bike height.
  • Top Tube Length--You can measure your torso to get a good estimate of proper top tube length. First, make a fist and extend your arm. Measure from the center of your fist to the end of your collarbone (the part that intersects your shoulder). Next, measure your torso by placing a book against your crotch with the spine facing up. Measure from the spine to the bottom of your throat (the spot between your collarbones). Finally, add the two measurements (arm length + torso length), divide the number in half and subtract six inches. This is your approximate top tube length. Compare this number to a bike's posted top tube length. You can allow for about two inches longer or shorter, as most bikes can be adjusted via stem length/height and saddle fore/aft position to make fine adjustments to the fit.
  • Bikes for Women--Proportionally, women tend to have a shorter torso and longer legs than men. Bike makers design women's bikes that offer a shorter top tube and many comfort/cruiser bikes built for women may also provide more stand-over clearance.

The Right AccessoriesWhen you make a bike purchase, don't forget these crucial add-ons:
  • Helmet (this is a must!)
  • Seat pack
  • Lock
  • Hydration pack, or water bottles and bottle cages
  • Spare tubes
  • Portable bike pump
  • Gloves

GMC Denali Road Bike

Customer Reviews

Putting it together:
The bike came with the typical assembly needed for a bike shipped in a cardboard box. Attach the steering column, front tire, seat, pedals, reflectors. Then adjust brakes and fine tune gears. No big deal. Several different size allen wrenches, open end wrenches, pliers, and a screwdriver were needed. It was not hard, but if you've never put a bike together before it might seem like a lot of work, and you still might wind up at a bike shop for proper gear and brake adjustments.
Initial thoughts:
It is a nice looking bike and since road bikes are pretty much only sold in bike shops, most people will assume it cost a LOT more than it really did. A friend asked if I spent "over $1,000" on it.
I have no problems with build quality. The welds look good, the bike seems solid, the seat tube fit fine. I was surprised how well the frame fits my 6'0" size.
The Good Things:
Nice looking bike
Could pass for a much more expensive bike
Lightweight
Great gears, I hit 38.5mph on a downhill with some gear remaining, and managed 32.4mph on level ground with a tailwind (measured using handlebar mounted GPS receiver). I can cruise overall in the 16-20mph range for the first hour.
Seat post clamps down nicely and is plenty long enough
The Bad Things:
Seat angle does not appear to be adjustable and since I am male I will have to purchase an adjustable seat due to the high front angle
No top pull brake levers, have to move hands into the drops in order to operate brakes
Brakes are marginally effective, I've had cheaper toy bikes with better brakes. Am going to try different pads.
To reach higher gears, the left gripshift turns toward you, but the right gripshift turns away from you.
Considering the frame size would fit an average 6' tall person, they should have made the handlebar stem an inch or two longer for proper ride height adjustment.
Due to the handlebar mounted twist grip shifters, there are very limited mounting positions available for accessories. I had to fabricate custom mounts for both my gps receiver and my headlight.
The pedals are too narrow. I will have to purchase wider pedals. Considering the frame size of the bike, it would be reasonable to provide slightly wider pedals.
Parts Availability:
I bought this bike with the thinking that for the price if it wore out in a year I could buy 5 more for the price of a single entry level road bike at our local bike shops.
That thinking got tested sooner rather than later. Against my better judgement, I allowed a relative to ride the bike just a few days after I purchased it. He proceeded to ride into a longways crack in a sidewalk which abrubtly closed up locking the front tire and causing him to rotate over the front of the bike. He is fine (scraped up), but the bike did not fare as well.
The front rim sustained deep grooves and the entire braking area of the rim was scraped up from the side of the concrete. The tire was ripped and the tube was punctured, both in several places. The grip shift mechanisms were gouged by the concrete. The rear derailer was bent, knocked sideways, and the spring was knocked off.
Of course, none of this is the fault of the bike. Actually I was able to reattach the spring and fix the derailer, so all I really needed was a new front tire (rim, tire, tube, liner). Easier said than done!
None of my 3 local bike shops stock 28 x 700c tires.
But the bigger concern was with the manufacturer, Kent. All the phone numbers on the bike and in the manual refer you to them. I have still been unable to obtain parts from them, almost a month later. They are nice but just keep saying they are "waiting for parts".
In the meanwhile, I ordered another same model bike from Amazon and have already received it and have been using it.
Interestingly, the latest bike has much beefier tires (still the same size). The older model (by a couple of weeks) had very smooth tires with no real tread depth. The new bike's tires have more meat around the shoulder area and look like they will hold up a lot better. The newer tires seem to be of significantly higher quality.
I plan to keep the other bike for spare parts and will continue calling Kent so that hopefully someday I can get a new front tire.
Final Thoughts:
Overall I am very pleased with the bike. You just can't beat the price. I could buy 5 of these bikes including shipping for the price of the cheapest bike from my local bike shop. Obtaining OEM parts may be hard to do. The bike is lightweight, has very good gearing, and can be very fast. It goes better than it stops. Replacing several key components will improve the bike significantly. It is not perfect, but when you factor in the price, it is a great deal.
It is sold at the price of what bikes in a toy store sell for. Just keep that in mind and realize you aren't buying a professional model bike, and it should meet or exceed your expectations.

The Denali is typical of mass produced, imported, department store bicycles. It will need some tinkering and adjustments, the extent of which will depend upon your experience, tools and desires. Most riders opting for this road bike will want to do things like true the wheels and adjust the brakes and derailleurs. They are close out of the box but need tweaking. Aesthetically, it is pretty with its anodized blue look, accented with black and silver stickers. The wheel stickers make the bike look expensive, but the metal name plates on the frame are a bit tacky and look like they're about to fall off (although you probably couldn't pry them off if you wanted to). Newer models don't have the name plates.
Problem areas on my Denali were the brake lever hoods (which began splitting after a few day's use), less than desired stopping power, and a bottom bracket lock ring that needed tightening. Installing upgraded levers with better hoods eliminated the splitting, and better brake pads improved the braking, although better calipers would help even more.
The ride is smooth, light and nimble, and the Revo grip shifters are excellent but take up a bit of top bar space. The seat is comfortable for a road bike, and the Denali pedals easily, making long rides a breeze. The kickstand is a welcomed addition (and removable for those who balk at kickstands).
If drop bars turn you off, a viable option would be to replace the stem and split road bar (needed to accommodate the grip shifters) and replace them with a 22.2mm mountain bike stem, flat handlebar and mountain bike brake levers, keeping the Revo shifters. This would involve installing new cables and grips and may be beyond the budget/capabilities of most riders, but what a wonderful, inexpensive hybrid you'd create!
If you're looking for a bicycle that's dialed in for you with personalized dealer support, go to a bicycle shop and be prepared to pay quite a bit more. If you want a true bargain, have some tools/experience and are willing to tinker, get the Denali. It's a hoot to ride!

Sram MRX Comp Twister Mountain Bike Shifter - Rear

Customer Reviews

I have a 10 year old Huffy Verona 18 speed mountain bike, that originally had Falcon MLG-26i twist shifters, these falcon shifters are very common in low-end mountain bikes. The Falcon shifter cracked and was beyond repair. I searched for a twist shifter replacement locally, the only replacements i found where Shimano shifters that cost more than the old bike itself. The Sram MRX was an excellent replacement at a very low price.
The price on the Sram cannot be beat, and the shipping was ultra fast, it only took 4 days from the time I ordered to arrive. Installation is very easy, since the SRAM MRX already includes the cable. The instruction sheet is a little lacking, only having instructions on how to install the shifter on the handle, not how to adjust the derailleur. There are plenty of tutorials on-line on how to adjust once installed. The Sram shifter is much smoother than my old Falcon, it feels more like a friction shifter than an index one, except for the slight "click" that tells you that you have selected a gear. It is important to have a 2.5mm allen key available to install the shifter. I would also recommend buying a set of replacement cable sleeves, as the old ones could be rusted and will not allow the new cable to slip trough.

Shifter is easy to install. A perfect replacement for my bike's original shifter that wore out. Shift points line up perfectly with my cluster gear. Works very well, but I wish the shifts were crisper.
I especially like Niagara Cycle Works. They have low prices, good service, and delivered more than I paid for!

These are great! Very sturdy, incredibly easy to install (10 minutes tops, and I'm not mechanically inclined...). Come with adapters to fit several frame sizes (I had to use the smallest to fit a Huffy 20" girl's bike). Child learning to ride is 60 lbs. and has a lot of insecurity issues. These make her feel stable and safe. We'll be taking them off in no time! Worth the extra money. Highly recommended.

They sent us an item that had been returned by a previous customer which was annoying that they couldn't even take the RMA out of the box. HOWEVER, it worked just fine and was easy enough for me to assemble w/ out my husband's help, so I'm happy. My daughter's plastic training wheels rotted in the AZ sun so these should do the trick!

I ride XC on a hardtail. I like low tire pressure for the handling and comfort but I was getting pinch flats all the time. My tubes were covered with patches. I was thinking about going tubeless but the setup and maintenance seems like a big pain - and you still have to carry a tube with you in case of a flat. On the suggestion of a friend, I bought these tubes. They're super heavy duty. I run about 20-22 psi in both wheels and after about a dozen rides with these tubes I haven't had a pinch flat yet. I'm 190 so 20 psi is extremely low pressure especially for landing drops. So far so good.
One downside is the weight, although they don't seem that much heavier. I think together they add about 1 lb to the bike. For me the reliability is worth a little extra weight. The other downside is cost ($18/tube!?!?!)
Bottom line: reliable, easy to set up (its just an inner tube after all - just a heavy duty one) and allows really REALLY low pressure. 4 stars instead of 5 due to being really expensive for an inner tube and also for the extra weight.

The Maxxis line of tires are superior, so it comes as no surprise that there tubes are also far more superior than any other brand I have purchased in the past. I run Maxxis Minion DH thick wall tires with the Maxxis DH tubes and no longer get flats due to pinched tubes. Finally!

Very disappointed with product, they don not reply to your messages once you purchase it, it didnt come with one of the valves for the tires either. DO NOT PURCHASE FROM THESE PEOPLE, plus they didnt sent us the correct bike, and also it took over 4 weeks to ship. I had to waste $300 on this useless bike, if i were you i would choose someone else who sells fixies :(

Customer Reviews

Pretty good deal. Seriously. $8 for a brand new set of cables, housing, and even a few ferrules and cable tips. That's a LOT of cable for about $9. Check, now its $5.50 at Amazon. Damn good deal!
The shift housings are coiled, not compressionless. If you have index shifter (shifters that are numbered), then you might want to look for compressionless shifter cables. If you have friction shifters (levers), you'll be fine. Still, the brake cables are universal, so you are fine in that respect.
Just a tip (got from a friend): when you cut the cable, the ends can fray. If you do not have a bicycle cable cutter, what you can do is wrap a small amount (maybe 2-3 turns) of electrical tape around the point you will cut, and then cut the cable with a regular cable cutter, sort of snipping then turning then snipping again. I got a REALLY cut with this tip.

These cables and housings aren't perfect, but they work pretty darn well. I replaced the all the cables on one bike, the rear brake and rear derailleur cables on another, and the front derailleur cable on yet another using these cables. So far, so good. The brakes are working better than ever. The housing condenses just a tad when the cable is being pulled, so my rear derailleur skips 1st gear, but I'm fine with that. All the other gears work, why do I need first? The front derailleur cable I replaced on a friend's bike seems to be working fine too. A word of advice: lube the inside of these cable housings. if you don't there's a bit more friction than one is ok with in a bike cable. I just drip some motor oil in there before I run the wires through them and it works like a charm. Put them on over a month ago and everything is still working as smooth as ever! :D I used these to fix two Giant boulder mountain bikes, and one Schwinn Mesa. All three had rapid fire / click-style gear shifters.
